What you are looking at

The recording plays at the top, with a timeline under it. Below are five tabs: Highlights, Steps (or Segments), Transcript, Measures and Score. Click any time in the timeline, the transcript or a list to jump to that part of the recording.

Start with Highlights

Highlights lists the lines where the narration sounds negative or positive, and where parts of the session begin. Click one to play that moment, starting 1.5 seconds early. It is the fastest way to find where someone struggled.

Steps and segments

If the journey has steps, the report divides the session by step. It uses the step start times set for the session, or else lines the steps up with the narration or estimates them by time. Otherwise it divides the session into parts on its own, called segments. The effort shown for each part is experimental.

The Effort Score

A number from 0 to 100, where higher means more effort. It is experimental: use it to compare sessions of the same journey, not as a grade. The current scoring method combines four parts, each also from 0 to 100 with a low, medium or high band:

  • Effort of doing: scrolling, switching between apps, windows, documents or browser tabs, and stretches that people label as low, medium or high cognitive effort. With the current method, clicks and typing are shown but not counted.
  • Negative narration: how much of what was said sounded negative.
  • Narration: how many words were spoken per minute.
  • Time on task: how long the session took, after any trims in the editor. Longer sessions score higher.

The Score tab shows how much each part counts in your workspace. Older workspaces may use an earlier scoring method. See How effort is scored for the details.

Beta labels

Each detected signal carries a Beta label. Its note says how it did in our own tests and what is not checked yet. Treat a single detection as a hint and check it on the video.

Fix what was misread

In Transcript, select a line and set its tone from 1 to 5. The score, Highlights and timeline update. If you analyze the session again, your label carries over to the same line whenever that line can be matched. Show original detections shows what was detected before your changes.

Partial results

A session with no narration has no transcript, and its narration measures are empty. What happens on screen is still analyzed.
